When it comes to industrial door and loading bay installation and maintenance, successful training of engineers is key to maintain a consistent high standard of service.
Here at BID Group Ltd, we are investing in the continuous training and development of our teams, ensuring engineers are fully knowledgeable in a range of equipment by setting up training bays at each of our regional depots to provide a simulated on site work based learning area.
The bays are fitted with Electrical Sectional Overhead, Ardent High Speed Door and a Dock Leveller, complete with additional separate safety features and offer a clear training plan and progression route in order to improve skills and enable progression within the group.
Our first training bay is now set up at our North East depot in Cramlington and is proving a positive asset.
Keith Fisher, Operations Manager North said “The bay provides us with a working model and enables the trainee to carry out supervised practical tasks in a controlled learning environment, building on their skills and knowledge of how to install a safe and compliant product. It also gives the opportunity to learn how to diagnose some of the problems and issues we come across every day and how to resolve them.
The onsite training includes.
• Introduction to working parts of the complete loading bay.
• Simple wiring and connections.
• Changing Cables on a sectional
• How to support and safe working on a leveller.
• Changing of the main / lip ram.
• Changing of the pump / oil hoses.
• Replacement of other parts.
• Oil changes / hazards involved.
• Fault finding on basic electrics.
• Service requirements and tests.
Steven Simmons, Training Manager at BID Group adds “We are in the process of developing a ground up training programme for new and existing engineers. The excellent work from the North East Depot has given a blueprint for all BID Group depots across the UK to follow and build upon”
